Choosing to give Your life over to God No matter what You are Asked to do

Verses:  Matthew 1:18-25

My thoughts about the verses:

Imagine for a moment what it must have been like for Mary.  She was engaged to marry.  The Holy Spirit came upon her because of her faithful devotion and she began carrying the one that would save the world.  Mary had to be worried that she would be seen as an adulterous.  She had to be afraid that she would face the consequences established by the Jewish community.

Imagine for a moment what it must felt like to be Joseph.  Joseph was a righteous man and had to be in shock when he discovered Mary was pregnant.  He had all right at that time to leave her and humiliate her for what had happened.  Yet, because he was righteous he had decided to not to marry her but to do it in quiet.

Yet, the Holy Spirit spoke to both of them.  They were both told to trust in God that through their devotion God would bring the Messiah.  Their fears were erased.  They accepted their role in the miracle to come.

Imagine what it would feel like to know that you would have the role of being the parents of the long waited for Messiah.  Joseph and Mary both faced this situation.  After accepting their role you can only imagine what they were thinking.  The responsibility had to be weighing on their mind.  They had to also feel blessed by God that they were chosen as the parents of Emmanuel.

We look at this story and see it as the story of the miracle of the birth of Jesus.  It is easy to see that the story is told so that we can accept Jesus as the Messiah.  Yet, are we willing to see what it would be like to be so faithful that God would choose you to be the vessel that the Messiah would enter the world.

We have a very important lesson to take from this story.  God chooses us each day to do things that further the Realm of Heaven.  We are asked to live a faithful life.  We are asked to live a life that represents the love that Jesus has given us.  We are asked to share our love and story to those that have not accepted Jesus in our life.  Living a life that is devoted to God will change you forever.  You will soon find that being faithful to God will bring you closer to God.

Prayer:

We love you God.  We praise your Holy Name.  We give our lives to you.  Use us to help others find you.  Help us to live a life that is devoted to your service.  Help us to remember that you should be the center of life.  In the name of Emmanuel we pray.  Amen

Questions:

How would you handle this situation?  Would you run and hide? Would you accept the responsibility?  Are you living a life in which God is the center of everything that you do?  What do you need to do to become more faithful to God?
